Rancho Cordova advocates use the Internet and social media to inspire a community

Ryan Lundquist is a former neighborhood watch captain who's part of a team of citizens using digital media to helps their neighborhood of White Rock connect and grow.   Their goal is create an avenue to help people communicate and work together for the purpose of making their neighborhood better.

The White Rock Neighborhood website is all about engaging each person and household to get involved in the wellbeing of White Rock.  Visit the website and you're encouraged to check out positive activities that are happening, list your own, watch videos, learn about crime tips and vote for issues such as the two phase plan for Mills Park Drive.

Rancho Cordova luncheon with Mayor McGarvey

Join the Cordova Community Council and Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce for "The Year Ahead" Rancho Cordova luncheon with Mayor Bob McGarvey.  

Mayor McGarvey will share his hopes and plans for the year ahead, while the Chamber tells us what it has in store for 2011, and the Cordova Community Council unveils another great year of community events.

Free real estate mobile app launched

Cheri Elliott, one of America’s most legendary cyclist and locally well known as “The Broker on a Bike,” announced the launch of her free real estate mobile app.

The app uses GPS, when available, to locate the user and instantly display real estate listings in the immediate area. No more having to pull flyers.  You can see and save all the listings details and photos on the spot. Users can also search by address, city or zip code to see property details for all homes for sale in a specified area, including price, square footage, estimated mortgage, taxes, features, maps, pictures and more. The “Refine Search” feature lets users select a price range, property type and the number of beds and baths to help them find just what they’re looking for. 

It works on standard cell phones, smartphones, and iPhones/iPads across all mobile carriers.   Cheri explains, “This tool is extremely powerful.

San Juan Unified selects 2011 classified employees of the Year

Five outstanding employees have been selected as San Juan Unified’s 2011 Classified School Employees of the Year. To recognize classified employees, the District accepted nominations for Classified Employees of the Year in the following six categories: child nutrition; maintenance and operations; office and technical; para-educator and instructional assistance; support services and security; and transportation.

All five of the Classified Employees of the Year will be recognized at the Feb. 8 Board meeting. They are also now eligible to be selected as one of Sacramento County’s Teachers of the Year. 

Starr King K-8 Head Custodian James Hutton has been a custodian in the District for 11 years and has been the head custodian at Starr King K-8 for one year.

“James is making a difference in the lives of our students and he has made a personal commitment to Starr King.
