Momservation: Diamond earrings can’t replace the gift of no more bickering. But they sure help drown out the noise.

4 Things Your Teens Want for Christmas

4 Things Your Teens Want for Christmas

Momservation:"The first great gift we can bestow on others is a good example.” ~Thomas Morell

Tired of giving gift cards? Money feels too impersonal? Too hard to figure out latest trends, interests, or sizes? Then you’ve come to the right place for Christmas shopping for that teenager in your life.

Choose from one of the four gifts below and I guarantee your teen will be happier than a kid getting an iPhone6 for Christmas! (Okay, maybe I don’t guarantee that, but I bet it will be right up there with their favorite gifts.)

Sutter's Fort "Hands On History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas" on 12/13!

Sutter's Fort "Hands On History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas" on 12/13!

To help get Fort visitors in a festive holiday spirit, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) will present an interactive and fun “Hands on History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas” event on Saturday, December 13.

In John Sutter’s day, people from around the world passed through the gates of Sutter’s Fort, each with their own customs and traditions for the holiday season.  On this special day in December, friends and families are encouraged to visit the Fort to step back in time to holidays past and enjoy docents in period attire as they interpret and demonstrate a variety of early holiday traditions and cultural activities similar to what early emigrants did in the 1840s.  Entertaining vignettes will be set up that showcase a few of the diverse holiday scenes that will include food, music, decorations and other holiday traditions.

Community encouraged to visit Governor’s Mansion before historic treasure closes for renovations

Community encouraged to visit Governor’s Mansion before historic treasure closes for renovations

The California State Historic Governor’s Mansion Foundation, in partnership with California State Parks, encourage the community to visit the historic Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park (SHP) in December before it temporarily closes to the public on January 1, 2015, for extensive renovations and rehabilitation efforts.

Throughout the month of December, the Governor’s Mansion SHP is open for guided tours on Wednesdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.   Plus, on two Saturdays – December 6 and 13 – guests can enjoy the Mansion during the special “Christmas Memories” event that will include elaborate holiday decorations, festive live holiday music, children’s activities, captivating storytellers and docents in period attire sharing holiday-related stories of past governors and their families.   Also, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make special visits to the Mansion to meet excited little ones and be available for holiday photographs.
