Another suspect in Rosemont murder arrested

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sheriff's detectives have made a second arrest in the fatal shooting of a man found in his SUV on Westporter Drive last Thursday, Jan. 17.

Rodolfo Villa, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday for the murder of Alexander Chavez, 21, said Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.

Tuesday, Michael Almeda, 19, was arrested in connection with the case, Ramos said.

Both men remain in custody. Villa was ineligible for bail.

Man killed in Rosemont drive-by shooting identified

SACRAMENTO, CA - A man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in a south Rosemont neighborhood Thursday was identified by the Sacramento County coroner as 21-year-old Alexander Brian Chavez.

The shooting happened around 6:20 p.m. on the 4100 block of Westporter Drive. A man [Chavez] and woman were driving down the road in a white SUV when someone came up beside them in another car and started firing, Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos said.

Chavez's mother said her son had just picked up his girlfriend and was five minutes from home when he was shot.

"All indications are this vehicle was traveling after this guy was shot and ultimately came to a stop a distance where it had been," Ramos said. "So, we've got to go up and down this block to throughout the neighborhood knocking on doors, possibly around a corner or two trying to find out exactly where the shooting was."

Two arrested in Dixon following lengthy chase

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - An attempted traffic stop in Rancho Cordova turned into lengthy pursuit along Interstate 80 Tuesday morning.

According to initial Rancho Cordova police reports, the incident began before 5 a.m. on Tuesday when officers in Rancho Cordova attempted to stop a couple suspected of being involved in an assault.

The driver fled and attempted to evade police, speeding westward on I-80 to Dixon where they finally surrendered at a gas station near Dixon Ave. around 5:40 a.m.

Police took the driver and a passenger, a man and woman, into custody at the scene without incident.

Dad, accomplice accused of shoplifting with baby, stroller

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - A father and his companion were arrested on Tuesday after they took the man's child along for a shoplifting trip at the CVS drug store on Zinfandel Drive, according to sheriff's deputies.

Sergeant Jason Ramos of the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept. said the child's father, 26-year-old Danny Williams and his accomplice, 31-year-old Deaire Jeffries concealed store merchandise inside the stroller as they walked around the store.

Ramos said the pair paid for one item at the register then left the store.

Officers were called to the scene around 2:15 p.m. and detained Williams and Jeffries a short distance from the store. Several items were then found hidden inside the stroller, including DVDs and bottles of alcohol, said Ramos.

The duo was then positively identified by CVS personnel and arrested.

High-speed pursuit ends in fiery crash in Natomas

NATOMAS, Calif. - A woman suspected of stealing a car led Sacramento County deputies on a high-speed pursuit before wrecking in the Natomas area on Wednesday morning.

According to Sacramento County Sheriff's Sergeant Jason Ramos, the pursuit began around 10:50 a.m. near Longview Drive when deputies spotted the suspected stolen vehicle on Interstate 80.

According to Ramos, the driver fled westbound to Interstate 5, hitting speeds up to 90 miles per hour, before heading north and exiting at Arena Blvd. Upon exiting the interstate, the woman collided with a Raley's truck, causing her vehicle to catch fire briefly.

The driver was uninjured in the wreck but taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared before being arrested, said Ramos.

Folsom hospital nurse accused of sexually abusing patient

SACRAMENTO, CA - A nurse who was employed by a Folsom hospital is set to appear in court next week on charges he fondled a disabled, incapacitated patient.

The criminal complaint filed by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office alleges Daniel Ratner touched the victim's vagina and breast for the purpose of sexual gratification on or about Oct. 19, 2012.

The victim was a patient at Mercy Hospital of Folsom.

Ratner also faces four counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of videotaping a person in a state of undress without their knowledge. The alleged offenses were committed between on or about Aug. 1, 2012 and Nov. 15, 2012.

Man found shot in car in Rancho Cordova dies

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - A man found shot in his vehicle on the 10400 block of White Rock Road in Rancho Cordova on Wednesday morning has died.

Sgt. Jason Ramos of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said 29-year-old Lucas Esteban-Enrique succumbed to his injuries at 6:50 p.m. Thursday.

Esteban-Enrique was discovered in his vehicle and transported to hospital shortly after 8 Wednesday morning.
