Man killed in Rosemont drive-by shooting identified | Crime
SACRAMENTO, CA - A man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in a south Rosemont neighborhood Thursday was identified by the Sacramento County coroner as 21-year-old Alexander Brian Chavez.
The shooting happened around 6:20 p.m. on the 4100 block of Westporter Drive. A man [Chavez] and woman were driving down the road in a white SUV when someone came up beside them in another car and started firing, Sacramento County sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos said.
Chavez's mother said her son had just picked up his girlfriend and was five minutes from home when he was shot.
"All indications are this vehicle was traveling after this guy was shot and ultimately came to a stop a distance where it had been," Ramos said. "So, we've got to go up and down this block to throughout the neighborhood knocking on doors, possibly around a corner or two trying to find out exactly where the shooting was."
Deputies canvassed the area into the night looking for possible witnesses and clues.
Neighbors reported hearing as many as six shots and then a woman screaming. Another witness reported seeing a dark car speed off.
The motive behind the shooting was not yet known. No description of the shooter was available.
